The RHS School Gardening Awards inspire and support schools to provide young people with gardening opportunities to enhance their skills and boost their development.
RHS’ work with schools has shown the following direct benefits of gardening for young people:
Improves physical and mental well-being
Builds life skills such as confidence, teamwork and communication
Enhances literacy, numeracy and oratory skills
Enriches the entire curriculum from science, maths and geography, to art, design and languages
Encourages a better and healthier lifestyle
Teaches about the environment and sustainability
Helps young people engage with their surroundings better and develop a sense of responsibility
This rewards scheme is made up of 5 levels that help you turn your garden into a valuable resource.
Successfully completed levels will be awarded with a certificate and brilliant reward worth up to £200!

Join the campaign by speaking to a teacher at your school and pointing them in this direction:
Each level is nice and straightforward to achieve by submitting a few words and photos via
the RHS website
To become a
Five Star Gardening school
, you’ll need to write up to 300 words on a gardening project involving the local community, accompanied by 6 photos or short film.
